Overview: A modern apartment located by the Bay of Bothnia, in Simo, which is the southernmost county of Lapland. We offer the unique combination of natural surroundings and traditions with fully equipped high quality accommodation facilities.

4. WHITE WATER RAFTING IN KUKKOLANKOSKI
Shooting the rapids is done in a rubber boat, and the customers participate on steering by paddling. The activity starts by going through safety and paddling instructions. Waterproof clothing, rubber boots, safety vests and helmets will be handed out to the participants.
The first shooting is called the “basic track”, and it follows the Finnish-Swedish border which is also where the river runs deepest.
The second run will be an action track if circumstances allow. The first task of the track is to stop the raft on a back current. After that the raft is paddled along a fast track, which runs through the best waves of the river. The tasks are quite challenging. The total duration of the event is approximately 2 hours

Also cached fish can be cooked on fire or at hotel restaurant in the evening.

Long archipelago route clockwise by bike ( or by car )  

Day. 1 Arrive in Turku by bus, train, plane or ferry.

 Your guide will greet you at the bicycle/scooter rental shop. You will receive bikes, helmets and maps. You will be given several route descriptions to help you to decide on a route.

Your first accommodation will be in Parainen, around 20 km (12 miles) from Turku, at Camping Solliden.

Optional extra: Book yourself an archipelago sightseeing cruise or enjoy some of the many recreational activities at the site.

 Day 2 Get to know the Archipelago

 Leave Parainen and continue to the neighboring island of Nauvo (Parainen to Nauvo 33 km/20 miles). Along the way you can enjoy gorgeous archipelago scenery. Cross the bridge of Sattmark where there are popular hiking and nature trails. Further along the road 17 km (10 miles) from the center of Parainen, you will reach the ferry at Lillmälö. These yellow ferries are both free and frequent.

Nauvo is one of the biggest and busiest islands in the Turku archipelago. It has an exceptionally busy harbor, with many restaurants, shops and galleries.

Embark on a guided kayak tour from the heart of Nauvo, after an introduction course and safety demonstration. Equipment is provided. Suitable for all experience levels.

 Your next charming accommodation is a small and cozy bed-and-breakfast in Nauvo.

 Day 3. Fishing the Archipelago way

The journey continues after breakfast.

Cross the sea by ferry to Korppoo island (Nauvo to Korpoo 27 km/17 miles) situated in the middle of the archipelago. The next leg of the archipelago trail is Houtskär (Korppoo to Houtskär 25 km/16 miles). The day is devoted to fishing. Boats hold three or four people, and fishing tackle is included.: You are now ready to catch some great fish!
Overnight stay at an idyllic waterfront cottage.

 Day 4. Hiking in the wilderness

Next morning it is time to leave Houtskär and continue to Iniö (Houtskär to- Iniö 25 km/16 miles), a tiny island in the archipelago with only 200 permanent residents.
Have lunch at the guest harbor and take a ferry to the next island , Kustavi. (Iniö to Kustavi 13 km/8 miles). Kustavi incorporates over 2,000 islands. In summer when people flock there for boating, fishing, hiking, camping, and many other outdoor activities. Your wilderness guide will lead you in the Archipelago forests including a visit to the Katanpaa coastal fort, built by the Russians in the early20th century. There is an option to learn the techniques of archipelago pottery making.
Sleep over in B&B guest house in Kustavi or Taivassalo.

 Day 5.  Pleasant promenades in picturesque resort town Naantali with pampering at the premier spa.

 The group takes an early morning ferry to the island of Velkua and continues towards Merimasku. (Velkua to Merimasku 19 km/12 miles).

Cross the bridge to the island of Luonnonmaa. The road passes close to Kultaranta Castle; the official summer residence of the Finnish President. The garden around the castle boasts more than 3,500 roses and approximately one thousand square meters (10,700 square feet) of greenhouse area. The beautiful garden surrounding the granite castle is open throughout the summer months.

The journey (6 km/3.7 miles) continues with a stunning ride over the Ukko-Pekka Bridge, on the way to Naantali, Finland’s city of sun.

 It is time to get off the saddle for the rest of the day to please the body and soul. Naantali is one of the most popular summer resorts and it is very busy during the summer months.
In Naantali you can visit the Moomin Land, to see the famous fat TV characters, or walk along the promenade of the old city with many pubs and restaurants.

 Optional extra: Pamper yourselves at the enormous Naantali Spa. There are indoor and outdoor pools, two Turkish baths and several saunas. After the refreshing spa, there will be dinner waiting. Naantali Spa Hotel has live music every night during the summer.

Overnight in a bed and breakfast guest house, not far from the old city.

 Day 6.Turku – sightseeing , evening cruise and jazz

 After Naantali, it is time to get to know Turku. There is a good bike trail from Naantali to Turku, only 18 km/11 miles away.

When you each Turku, return the bikes or scooters.

Turku is the oldest city in Finland. It is also the fifth biggest, with about 170,000 residents. Turku was Finland’s largest city and capital until 1812, when the capital was moved to Helsinki. Turku was chosen by the European Union as Europe’s Capital of Culture in 2011, preparing itself for a flood of tourism over the next year and a half.

The city really has a lot to offer, with an array of museums, and lively summers when the whole city seems to head for the small flotilla of boat bars moored in the heart of town.

Optional extra: Guided evening tour along the Aura River by foot. Learn about the history of Turku and see the liveliest part of it.

 This self-drive tour starts in the capital of Finland and takes you around the lake district before returning to Helsinki. We will follow the old Kings’ Road east of Helsinki, through Porvoo, Kotka and Hamina. We will stop at Mikkeli, the capital of the province of Eastern Finland before continuing south to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Repovesi National Park and Verla Mill, now a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage site.  DAY 1

 Arrival at Helsinki Airport

Pick up your rental car. Companies are located in the corridor between terminals.. Head to the capital or take the eastern Helsinki by-pass route and head directly to Porvoo.

 DAY 2

Route: Helsinki – Porvoo – Kotka

What to see/do: We leave Helsinki early in the morning and head east on the 7 / E18. After a 50 km drive we come to the small and idyllic town of Porvoo.with its quaint , cobble stone streets, old wooden buildings, craft shops and boutiques.

We will vist the old town, with its beautiful 14th-century streets, many famous galleries and museums, such as the museum at the former home of national poet J.L. Runeberg and stroll along the river waterfront with its red ochre sheds and colorful cafes.

From Porvoo head east to Kotka, a  maritime city, located on the Gulf of Finland and its charming waterfront. In Kotka visit the Maritime Museum of Finland, housed in the architecturally unique Vellamo Center. Overnight in Kotka.

 DAY 3

 Route: Kotka –Hamina – Lappeenranta – Imatra

 Visit the The Sapokka Water Garden in Kotka, an oasis close to the town´s centre. This Finland´s most prize-awarded park is a unique whole of waterfalls, stone formations, plants and artificial lighting. Concerts take place at the outdoor stage of Sapokka Water Garden from June to August.

From Kotka continue driving east on the Kings’ Road, stopping in Hamina (40 km/25 miles), a small town with a vivid history and culture. The 350-year-old town with an unusual circular town plan has retained its ancient appearance. An 18th-century star-shaped fortress of Italian design surrounds the town center.. Guided tours can be booked at the local tourist center.

 Lappeenranta, 85 km/53 miles from Hamina, is a friendly town and a hub of lakeside tourism. Our tour starts at Sandcastle, Finland’s biggest sand sculpture, crafted out of three million kilograms (over three tons) of sand. We will have a fun ride on a road train that offers sightseeing tours in the town stopping first at the Fortress, dating back to 1650, with a fascinating history, magnificent views and a myriad attractions.

Take a cruise and enjoy the beautiful Saimaa archipelago or the historic Saimaa Canal, experience its first lock, whose height is over 13 meters (42 feet). You can have lunch during the cruise (m/s Camilla , €25  per person.

 Overnight in Imatra, 20 km (12 miles) from Lappeenranta, famous for its waterfalls. In Imatra you ride with Imatra Express (see video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSZf5neV8Us), rope slide which goes over the biggest rapids in Europe, Imatrankoski. Admiredthe rapid shows in summer, at 6 p.m. every day from June 26th to August 15th.

 DAY 4

 Route: Imatra – Punkaharju– Savonlinna – Mikkeli

 From Imatra we will take highway no. 6 and continue our drive along the Russian border towards Punkaharju.

Punkaharju, a narrow, seven-kilometer (4.3-mile) thread of land, water never more than a few meters away on either side, is one of Finland’s most beautiful natural landscapes. You will stop at the remarkable modern art center Retretti, one of the largest in the Nordic region.It is unique in that most of its exhibition space is underground. The man-made caves total 3,700 square meters (39,000 square feet) and reach a depth of 30 meters (100 feet). A tourist attraction for families with children is the  “Summerland” leisure park at Punkaharju.

 The picturesque town of Savonlinna is situated in the heart of the Saimaa Lakeland in the eastern part of Finland. Savonlinna, which was built entirely on islands, has traditionally been and one of the top travel destination in Finland The principal sight of Savonlinna is Olavinlinna Castle, which stands on a small rocky island and is famous for its annual opera festival.
Founded in 1475, it is one of the best preserved medieval castles in the Nordic countries. You are going to take a guided tour to see inside of the castle.
From Savonlinna the route leads us towards Mikkeli, the place to get to know the history of the Finnish wars in the Headquarters Museum, and the Infantry Museum.

 DAY 5

Route: Mikkeli – Mäntyharju – Repovesi – Verla – Kouvola

What to see/do?

Leave Mikkeli and drive on highway no. 5 west to Mäntyharju, a small town whose population more than doubles during the height of summer. The Salmela Art Center is one of the biggest and most famous in Finland. Its multicultural program includes art exhibitions, concerts and lectures.
Take road no. 368 from Mäntyharju to Voikoski . A water bus sails from the Orilampi Cottage and Holiday Center, along Finland’s Golden Trail (www.orilampi.com) to Repovesi National Park. Repovesi has a long tradition of being one of Southern Finland’s most popular hiking destinations. The national park’s landscape features the highest cliffs in Finland, considered the best climbing wall in the country and dozens of clear lakes and ponds. A local operator offers abseiling and climbing activities, guided tours, canoe rental and more.

 Visit Verla Mill, now a museum and a UNESCO World Heritage site. This is a living monument to the early days of the Finnish forest industry. Set in an idyllic village, it tells of the people who once lived and worked there. Overnight stay in the town of Kouvola, with its 450 lakes and over 7, 500 summer cottages.

Day. 1

Arrival in Turku

Your hostess will greet you at the bike/ car rental place next to the bus station. You will be handed maps, tour guides and good tips for making your travel an enjoyable experience.

Check in at your comfortable hotel, in the center of town. Spend the day taking a ride along river Aura with verdant banks and natural harbors around which the city was founded some 800 years ago. After a good night’s sleep wake up energized to tour the most popular sites of the bustling and attractive city. See attached leaflet for some suggested sites and attractions. All sites are within 10 to 15 minutes’ walk.

Day 2. Heading out from the city deep into the archipelago

Start off trip from your hotel in Turku and head towards Kustavi (69 km/43 miles from Turku). Cyclists can choose to take a bus to Kustavi, with bikes being conveyed on the bus too.

Spend the day touring and hiking in this island municipality which offers pleasant leisure activities close to nature.

In Kustavi you will hop on a ferry to the island of Brändö, halfway to Åland mainland, which is recommended for an overnight stay. Situated in the northeastern corner of the province of Åland there are lots of islets, cliffs to explore and enjoy.

Day 3. Åland mainland – history and present

The following morning you can continue the journey to Åland mainland. Your ferry arrives at the island of Vårdö. Visit the school museum or drive to the closest camping site to explore the archipelago on canoe excursions and fishing

.Your second stop in Åland is the Kastelholm Castle, a medieval castle in the municipality of Sund., today a major tourist attraction. We recommend a visit to famous Castle Golf Course, where you can feast your eyes on the fabulous park area even if you are not a player.

Continue from Kastelholm to Saltvik, of northern Åland, considered by many to be one of the most beautiful areas of the archipelago. Bays cut deep into the land surrounded by clear water. *Here is where you find your lovely B&B, an excellent place to stay, especially for families with children, wishing to relax in peace and quiet.

*Alternatively overnight stay will be in a guest house in Kastelholm .

Day 4. Touring the main island. Sightseeing in Mariehamn the capital of Åland

Spend the day touring Åland mainland.

There is much to discover in a small space in Åland. The main island is no bigger than 45 km (28 miles) from north to south and 50 km (31 miles) from east to west. Its small size makes it easy to discover the whole of Åland. The whole family can enjoy it, with plenty of fun activities for children, big and small.

Continue your trip to Mariehamn, the capital of Åland.

It is a quaint town with its 11,000 inhabitants. The town center has much to offer in a small space; you are always near shopping, restaurants, culture and experiences. With 1.5 million tourists each year, the town feels more spacious and larger than many other towns of the same size

In the West Harbor of Mariehamn are the Maritime Museum and an old sailing ship, the four-masted Pommern, which is now a museum.
Wander along idyllic small-town streets, look at local arts and crafts and go and have a coffee.

Day 5. Sightseeing Mariehamn –  depart Mariehamn to return to Turku

Morning: Continue sightseeing in Mariehamn and strolling downtown or in the nearby nature areas.
